Frequently Asked Questions

Will I need to attend fellowship meetings?

We do not insist on this, but we have found that long-term sobriety is best maintained with the support of one or more of the recognised 12-Step fellowships. Our coaches will recommend regular attendance at these meetings, but each individual must ultimately choose their own path in recovery. We are merely guides.

How are sober life coaches different from 12 step programme sponsors?

Our coaches are different from sponsors. A sponsor's role is to take the sponsee through the 12 steps of the programme (a good thing to do as well!) whereas sober life coaches will create individual, tailored, bespoke recovery packages that exactly fit your lifestyle, needs, location, business realities giving you the chance to integrate recovery fully into every aspect of your lives.

I am still drinking or using. Can I employ a coach to help me stop?

Our aim is to help clients maintain a sober lifestyle, and the act of actually stopping can have medical complications. We recommend contacting a professional clinic for detoxification.

How much does a Sober Life Coach cost?

We do not have an 'hourly rate' as such. Each programme is tailored to the requirements of the client, and priced accordingly. Please contact us for further details.

If I have a slip whilst in the care of a coach will our relationship end?

Not necessarily. In the case of a one-off slip our coaches will do their best to help the client find out why it occurred and advise the best way to progress. If the slip progresses to a full-blown relapse then it is likely that the client is not yet ready for Sober Life Coaching and they may be advised to seek alternative help. However, our coaches will not 'abandon' a client in trouble.

Can my Sober Coach talk to my husband/wife/partner/employer?

Generally speaking the Coach will only have direct contact with the client, but under some circumstances it may be considered helpful to involve 'significant others' in the coaching process.
